NEW YORK CITY (WTNH) — Hundreds of cars from dozens of manufacturers will be on display starting Friday at the New York International Auto Show.

The show will also highlight the changes and future of the automotive industry. That includes embracing electric and hybrid vehicles.

With the federal government — and Connecticut’s governor — pushing for tougher tailpipe emissions, there are still a lot of questions about what type of fuel is best.

“I don’t think there’s one answer for anybody in America,” said Nik Miles, an auto expert. “We have to start looking at what’s right for you, what you have access to, what the finances are. And it may be different if you live in Indianapolis, or if you live in Seattle.”

Miles said the second big issues for carmakers is the cost, since EVs and hybrids can be more expensive to buy.

At the show, Toyota will put affordable options front and center.

“We have something for everyone,” said Maggie Clark, a Toyota auto specialist. “We are showing off all of our bestselling vehicles, plus our brand new 2025 Toyota Camry, our brand new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser and so much more.”

The third big theme is technology. The vehicles are big, rolling computers that can practically drive themselves. They include cameras and, like the Hyundai Santa Fe, use fingerprint technology.

“You use your fingerprint, the car will unlock from the outside, the car will set the settings to how you want it, and it’s security,” Miles said. “We’re going to have to get ready for things like biometric readings of our faces.”

The show will be open to the public through April 7.
