PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Good evening everyone and happy Wednesday. After a slippery start to the day in some areas, we did see improvement going through the day as shower chances became more isolated in nature. This shower activity began to fill back in over western portions of the county during the late afternoon hours, with everyone looking at the potential for some steady showers between now and tomorrow morning. The area of low pressure responsible for these shower chances is still sitting off to the west of the region. This will continue to keep shower chances in the forecast over the next few days, with showers finally diminishing going into the weekend as the area of low pressure providing all of this unsettled weather finally begins to pull away from the region.

Overnight lows tonight will be mild compared to what we’ve seen the last few nights. Temperatures tonight aren’t expected to cool off much thanks to light southeasterly winds and cloud cover remaining in place during the overnight hours. Even though steady showers are expected to move through the region, they likely won’t bring much in terms of a temperature drop. Overnight lows are expected to bottom out in the mid and upper 30s for most areas. Areas of fog are likely to develop as air temperatures fall back close to the dew point.

Tomorrow will feature more chances for steadier showers as the area of low pressure sits closer to the region. The best chance to see these showers will be over southern portions of the county extending up through central Aroostook. Northern and western areas that saw rain showers for a good portion of the day today are less likely to see rain showers during the day tomorrow with this system. Another round of steady showers is expected to fill in for everyone tomorrow night, with some embedded downpours possible going into early Friday morning. High temperatures tomorrow will still be able to warm up thanks to winds bringing mild air into the region. High temperatures tomorrow are expected to warm up into the lower to mid 40s by the afternoon hours. The warm air in place tomorrow means all the shower activity that we see will fall in the form of rain.

Rainfall accumulation amounts between now and the weekend will be on the higher side compared to some other rain shower events that we’ve seen. Rainfall amounts closer to 3 inches worth of rain are expected over southern and central portions of the county. This illustrates nicely where some of the heaviest of showers will likely setup tomorrow night, resulting in higher end rainfall amounts by the time we get to the weekend.
