Tipperary choral group preparing for Evita production

Nicole Butler will play the role of the Perón mistress

Members of St Mary’s Choral Society in Clonmel this April are set to present their 135th production, the magnificent musical Evita by the renowned Andrew Lloyd Webber.

This captivating production beautifully chronicles the extraordinary life of Eva Péron, the iconic first lady of Argentina, as she ascends from the depths of the country’s slums to the pinnacle of power in the revered presidential palace.
With its enchanting melodies composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and profound lyrics penned by Tim Rice, including the timeless anthem Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Evita stands as an enduring tale of ambition, desire, and the pursuit of power.
Taking on the iconic role of Eva Perón is the exceptionally talented 17-year-old Saoirse Scully.
Despite her youth, Saoirse has already dazzled audiences with her remarkable performances, most notably as Éponine in

Bellvue Academy of Performing Art’s stunning production of Les Misérables.
Emmet Donlan, a pillar of St Mary’s, will grace the stage as Che in this remarkable Lloyd Webber phenomenon.
Having delivered a side-splitting portrayal of Igor in Tipperary Musical Society’s recent production of Young Frankenstein, Emmet is poised to deliver one of his most compelling performances to date.

Kilkenny native, Alan Hearne will make his debut with St Mary’s in this production, portraying Eva’s husband Juan Perón, Argentina’s most celebrated Presidents.

Nicole Butler will bring her immense talent to the role of Perón’s Mistress, providing a chance to showcase her vocal abilities with the iconic song Another Suitcase in Another Hall. Ian Purcell, who was last on stage with St Mary’s for their production of West Side Story in 2016 will bring his charisma and talent to the role of Magaldi, Eva’s first lover. Joining these exceptional actors are 46 chorus members, whose voices and energy will undoubtedly elevate the production to new heights.

Limerick native Des Henn, a seasoned director, is returning to the society to helm the production of Evita.
Joining him is his talented wife Barbara Meany, who will be choreographing the show.
This power couple first collaborated with the society on the highly successful production of Grease in 2018.

After his impressive debut during last year’s Little Shop of Horrors, Niall Kelly will once again take the reins as the musical director, leading a thirteen-piece orchestra. Mary Rose McNally, the esteemed chorus mistress, has been diligently working with the ensemble since early January to ensure a harmonious and captivating performance.
Evita will grace the stage of the historic White Memorial Theatre from April 8th to 13th. The box office opens on Monday, March 25th at 10am.

You can book your tickets either at the White Memorial Theatre ticket desk or through the society’s online box office at ticketsource.eu
