Baby dies days after horrid San Francisco crash that killed parents and brother

A baby whose parents and brother were killed when an SUV plowed into a San Francisco bus stop over the weekend has also died, officials said Wednesday.

The 6-month-old baby, Caue, succumbed while being treated in Oakland after Saturday’s crash, in which a 78-year-old woman allegedly plowed her SUV into a bus stop while driving the wrong way.

The baby’s father, Diego Cardoso de Oliveria — a Brazilian citizen working as an associate creative director for Apple — was pronounced dead at the scene along with Caue’s 1-year-old brother, Joaquin, KTVU reported.

Mom Mathilde died in an area hospital the following day, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Members of the Brazilian-Portuguese family chose to have the baby’s organs donated, according to Supervisor Myrna Melgar, who represents the area.

Over 100 people gathered for a vigil held for the family in West Portal on Monday, during which San Francisco Mayor London Breed called the crash “heartbreaking” while placing flowers at the memorial.

The suspected driver of the SUV, Mary Fong Lau, was arrested on suspicion of three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter, driving the wrong way, reckless driving and driving at an unsafe speed.

Lau was also hospitalized following the crash and is reportedly cooperating with police.

She has not yet been charged with any crimes.

Her attorney told KTVU in a statement that Lau and her family “join the community in mourning the tragic loss of life” and ask for privacy as the investigation into the crash continues.
