SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A crash involving an officer resulted in several people being sent to the hospital.

Around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 22, a Springfield Police officer’s vehicle was hit at the intersection of Kansas Expressway and Battlefield resulting in the vehicle being flipped upside down and then colliding with another car.

The patrol officer was sent to the hospital along with two people who ran into him.

“I know our officer was up and walking, but was complaining of serious neck pain,” said Lt. Curt Ringgold with SPD. “Due to that, he was sent to the hospital.”

The patrol officer was dispatched to a report of a serious injury involving a child, but that was later determined to be untrue. While he was responding to the call that was when the crash occurred.

Ringgold said this is an ongoing investigation.

Crews are working to reopen the intersection and ask the public to avoid the area if possible.

“We take [Officer-injuries] serious and it really impacts us a little bit, but we have to work through that because we do have a job to do,” said Ringgold. “That’s our brother in blue. So we do want to check on him, but we also are concerned for the other two people involved.
