I contacted Genie after installing a replacement unit for my 12 year old Genie. I wanted to know if my new unit had a motion detector to turn on the lights when I entered the garage from the house, like the old one did. When Genie was not able to answer my question about a “motion detector” in the unit, they said “we will need to refer you to a technician” (I thought it would be an in-house tech), but instead they sent me to JustAnswer. I assumed that JustAnswer had a contract to support Genie. Instead, I now have to dispute a $55 charge on my credit card from JustAnswer, and I still do NOT have an answer to my question. Appalling!

Customer service is absolutely horrible! I spoke to a lady today that was so rude while I was trying to explain the issues I was having. She couldn’t get me off the phone quick enough. She told me to go online and order part to fix my issues. Short answers and rude.

Called customer service and after an hour they told me since they don’t make that control board anymore I’d have to go buy a new garage door opener. When I called I asked if I could get a discount, the answer was no.

I cannot register my product and they refuse to help me! I just reported this company to both the FTC and the BBB. I have a sticker with a serial number that does not work. This company is a fraud and will not help! They are a fraud!!! I will be posting this on every website I know until they accept the fact they need to help.

We just purchased a new car and wanted to program the home link opener in the car to our Genie Model 7055 opener (purchased about 3 years ago at Home Depot). After 3 unsuccessful attempts at programming the home link following the directions that came with the opener I decided to call into customer support for help. I phoned in on a Tuesday night and there was a 3 hour backlog.

I phoned in the next morning and there was a 5 minute wait ... which actually turned into a 1 hour 5 minutes wait. The rep sent me directions via email. After 3 more tries - still no luck! Their instructions are incomplete, misleading, difficult to interpret and their CS support is pretty much worthless. I located a clip on opener remote fob that was supplied with the opener and will use this as our door opener option. I'm not inclined to wait on hold again for worthless support.

I've chalked up this experience as a 'lesson learned'. I am hopeful it informs you that Genie garage door openers are not worth the time, effort or money as a garage door opener alternative. I had a similar challenging experience when I installed the opener when programming the outdoor wall remote when the unit was new. It's always a good idea to BE AWARE ... These openers should be considered if you want an easy to set up and easy to use garage door opener.

Do not install this model, it has a defective plastic piece inside the motor housing responsible for disengage and engaging door. I've had two of them break in the same manner on two separate garage doors within a week. Trying to get hold of a rep literally takes hours, with each one advising they have to escalate the issue.... approximately 3 hours to handle via phone, and that doesn't count them advising you to take apart the unit and take a pic of the broken part. So, after paying a garage door company to come out for diagnosis, then to install the new unit, which I had to pay $40 to ship, even though it was under warranty, I got one fixed, and the other one broke less than two weeks later...on the phone for 3 hours now waiting to pay for yet another unit.

The larger problem is that they are still making them with the defective plastic part, which should be metal. Therefore, if history serves correct, every one and a half years, I'll be waiting on the phone...and forget them reimbursing you for anything, or being able to speak with a supervisor. Should initiate a class action suit for a defective product, requiring them to pay for shipping and re-install charges.

Hard to program to remotes as the "electronic program button" does not line up the plastic button on the outer shell of the unit. You have to take the whole casing off to program each time. This mean getting out the ladder and standing at the top of it. Then remove both plastic light covers, unscrew a heavy machine part, then unscrew the outer shell casing to reach the program button. Reinstalling the outer shell requires some repositioning as it doesn't line back up easily. Furthermore, remotes suddenly "un-communicate" without any reason, so this is frequent. If you are only using the wall button you'll love this unit. It's quiet and runs smoothly.

I have two Model 7055D openers. One is 5 years old and works great, the other one is 6 months old and stopped working today. I called support at 1pm and was told it would take 1 hours and it was suggested I do a live chat. I started the first chat at 1:13 pm and gave a detailed report of what was not happening. It took 41 mins of going back and forth to the garage and suddenly the person on chat disconnected. I started a second chat at 1:54 and had to answer the same questions all over again with a different person. At 2:30 this person abruptly ended the chat, and told me to call support. I got back in touch with someone, now the 3rd chat, and left my phone number and asked that someone call me. I was assured I was now a level 3 call. It is now 4:30 and I still have not received a call. Good luck finding a way to contact Genie direct thru either email or direct phone. I guess now I will try snail mail, but don't expect any better service there.

Opener worked fine for about 5 days. Then it stopped closing about 2" from the floor. I reset the down limits and tried again. The door would only travel 4" and stop. Continued to work on the up and down limits with no success. The door would only travel max 6". Called Genie and they claimed that my door was putting too much stress on the 3/4 hp. motor. My door is 5 years old, a single car width. I can lift it with one hand. They asked for the door to be disengaged from the opener and lowered to 4' above the floor. It took a few tries but the door would stay at 4'.

When the door would stay at the first few tries they said the door was out of balance and the spring needed to be tightened. I have a spring on the outside of each rail with no apparent means of tightening them. I took pictures and sent to Genie. After over an hour on the phone, they offered to send me parts to fix their machine. They told me I would get a call from a level 3 tech. Still waiting. I'm returning the machine.
