BIG STORY: Detroit Tigers set 13 position players for Opening Day with three cuts in spring training

Game notes: The Detroit Tigers will face the Phillies for the second time this week after an uneventful 0-0 game on Tuesday. The Tigers are fresh off some big roster trims, optioning Akil Baddoo and Ryan Kreidler to Triple-A Toledo and assigning Justyn Henry-Malloy to minor-league camp. That means the Tigers officially have their 13 position players set and have just five more cuts to make, all pitchers. Read more about the moves and what they mean with the regular season fast approaching from our' man Evan Petzold.

For Friday's affair, the Tigers will have their ace and Opening Day starter Tarik Skubal on the mound. The lefty has made three starts so far in spring training (not including one he made as a bullpen start to avoid facing the New York Mets, who they'll face in the second series of the year) and has largely impressed. But that doesn't mean Skubal won't have stuff he'll want to improve on. Last time out, Skubal gave up three runs and eight hits across four innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates, which is by no means terrible, but not necessarily up to his sky-high standard.

With Opening Day coming up soon on March 28, Friday will in all likelihood be Skubal's final tune-up of spring training before the team gets ready to head to Chicago to face the White Sox.
