MARQUETTE — One person is dead after a vehicle fire Friday night, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched at 9:50 p.m. to County Road 492 near Everly Way and found a vehicle engulfed in flames in a wooded area off the highway. The fire was quickly contained and put out by Marquette Township Fire Department, the sheriff’s office stated in a news release.

A single victim was found in the vehicle and positive identification is pending.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Marquette Township Fire and EMS, U.P. Health Systems EMS, the Marquette County Road Commission, Anttila’s Towing and Central Dispatch.
