Abilene Police are investigating a crash that killed a bicyclist Wednesday night.

Police say the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of South 14th Street.

According to a news release, officers arrived on scene and found a 41-year-old male unresponsive. He was lying on the shoulder of the road on the north side of South 14th and his bike was lying on the road just a short distance away.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. APD is still trying to contact the family before releasing the victim's name.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but officers were able to identify the car using a piece that fell off the car during the crash.

Officers located 28-year-old Luciano Tapia in a south Abilene neighborhood later the same night.

Tapia was arrested and charged with Second Degree Felony Accident Involving Death.

APD says they are still investigating this incident.
