Illinois State Police Troop 5 responded at about 12:32 p.m. to a three-vehicle crash near milepost 158, north of the I-55/I-74 merge, according to a news release. The crash involved two semitrailers and a passenger vehicle, ISP said, and one person from the passenger vehicle was declared deceased.
The northbound lanes of I-55 were closed while officers continued to investigate, with the Illinois Department of Transportation diverting traffic to Veterans Parkway.
All lanes of I-55 reopened shortly after 6:15 p.m., ISP said.
