SAIC-CATL, UL Solutions ink MoU to enhance safety of power batteries, EV charging systems

On March 20, SAIC-CATL, the joint venture between SAIC Motor and CATL, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the global safety science leader UL Solutions.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On March 20, SAIC-CATL, the joint venture between SAIC Motor and CATL, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the global safety science leader UL Solutions.

The partnership aims to address the evolving needs of the electric vehicle (EV) industry by concentrating on battery systems and component testing and certification. A significant portion of their cooperative efforts will revolve around the standards, technical specifications, and compliance in the development related to such areas as wireless charging system and the secondary use and safety of batteries.

Furthermore, the collaboration extends to testing and certification related to energy storage products and power batteries. This includes a range of standards and tests, such as UL 9540A evaluation tests for thermal runaway fire propagation in energy storage systems, large-scale fire testing and validation, DVPV testing, UL 1973 certification for batteries used in stationary and motive auxiliary power applications, UL 9540 safety standards for energy storage systems, and UL 2580 certification for electric vehicle power batteries.

Leveraging UL Solutions' comprehensive laboratory capabilities and global collaboration mechanisms, SAIC-CATL will receive support for global market access services. This initiative is designed to facilitate SAIC-CATL's entry into various global markets, meeting the diverse regulatory requirements encountered.

The signing of this MOU signifies a new chapter in the partnership between SAIC-CATL and UL Solutions. Together, they are committed to advancing the safety performance of power batteries and charging systems.
