CROWN POINT — Some cows were injured and others died early Tuesday after escaping from a farm and winding up in a roadway and involved in a vehicle crash, the city confirmed.
Crown Point Fire Rescue said it responded around 3:11 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Mississippi Parkway and U.S. 231 for a report of a vehicle versus cow.
Snow, the legendary white deer often seen around Crown Point, was hurt in a car accident Monday.
"A herd of cows escaped a nearby farm," according to Crown Point Communications Director Mary Freda-Flores. "Seven cows were injured in the incident. Some cows sustained fatal injuries."
A Ford sedan was totaled in the incident and the driver reportedly refused to be taken to the hospital.
A witness reported seeing the shooter running from the scene and police reportedly located the man.
Fire officials cleaned debris from the roadway and helped the farmer return the surviving cows.
"Crews also helped the farmer remove the deceased and injured cows from the roadway."
