Wheel of Fortune can’t seem to catch a break!

Contestant Amy Chumbley made it to the Bonus Round of Tuesday night’s (Feb. 27) installment, where she was tasked with solving a puzzle in the “Place” category, per Parade.

With the letters ” _ I _ E EM_T_ _IEL _” already displayed, host Pat Sajak reminded her, “You have 10 seconds to try to talk it out. Good luck.”

Chumbley then attempted to parse the puzzle, as she guessed, “Pile? Um, immense field. Uh…”

Sajak eventually told her, “That’s incorrect,” as letter turner Vanna White revealed the answer to be “Wide Empty Field.”

Chumbley appeared upset, as Sajak told viewers, “She’s crying on the air.” He then shared that the puzzle was worth an additional $40,000.

Chumbley, who took home $27,510, eventually sported a smile and said, “I’m so happy.”

Nonetheless, those who tuned into Tuesday night’s episode felt for Chumbley and argued that the puzzle was unfair. Of course, they shared their thoughts on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter).

“@WheelofFortune Wide empty field?” one viewer queried. “Have you ever heard anyone reference that place? #ridiculous.”

Another replied, “It’s right up there with a ‘full empty glass’. AI generated?”

One critic called it “one of the worst final puzzles,” and another described it as “awful.”

While someone argued the answer was “words nobody has ever said,” another expressed their confusion with a simple “seriously?!”

Some other recent Bonus Round puzzles have had fans fired up online. Last month, fans were convinced that Megan Carvale was “ripped off” and that she had correctly guessed “pink orchid,” the answer in the “Living Things” category. However, Carvale candidly came forward on Good Morning America later that week and clarified that she had really said “something orchid.”

Just last Friday night (Feb. 23), contestant Tamara was up against a Bonus Round puzzle in the “What Are You Doing?” category. She just missed the correct answer of “joining a book club” by guessing “running a book club,” but fans urged Wheel of Fortune to give her the prize money, calling out the “bullshit” ruling.

Wheel of Fortune airs on weeknights at 7:30/6:30c. Check out their website for local listings.
