ALEX. THANK YOU. OMAHA POLICE SHOOT AND KILL A DOG DURING A TRESPASSING CALL AND INJURE TWO BYSTANDERS IN THE PROCESS. ONE, A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL AND THE OTHER A 37 YEAR OLD WOMAN. POLICE SAY WHILE ON SCENE THIS MORNING NEAR 16TH AND FARNAM, THEY HEARD SCREAMING AND BARKING COMING FROM THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE SECURITIES BUILDING. OFFICERS FOUND TWO PEOPLE TRYING TO SEPARATE, FOUND PEOPLE TRYING TO SEPARATE, TWO LARGE DOGS FIGHTING IN THE HALLWAY. AN OFFICER TOLD THE BYSTANDERS TO MOVE, THEN FIRED AT THE DOGS, KILLING ONE. NOT EVERY SITUATION WHERE YOU COME IN CONTACT WITH AN AGGRESSIVE DOG ENDS IN THAT DOG BEING BEING SHOT BY POLICE. UM, IT JUST KIND OF DEPENDS IF YOU CAN MAKE DISTANCE AND GET AWAY FROM THE DOG, THAT’S PREFERABLE. BUT OBVIOUSLY, UM, BEING IN AN APARTMENT BUILDING AND HALLWAY AND EVERYTHING, I’D IMAGINE IT’S TIGHT QUARTERS, ESPECIALLY THE THE AREA THAT I SAW. SO THEY THEY ACTED THE WAY THEY FELT THEY NEEDED TO ACT. AND, UM, AGAIN, WE’LL GET MORE DETAILS AS, AS THE INVESTIGATION UNFOLDS. BOTH WOMEN WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND SHOULD BE OKAY. Omaha police Lt. Neal Bonacci told KETV that officers responded to a trespassing call and encountered an aggressive dog.

Shots were fired by officers, an estimated three to five rounds, to take the dog down, leading to a help an officer call, Bonacci said.
