ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A BNSF freight train hauling corn derailed near Socorro around 10 p.m. Monday. BNSF crews are working to clean up the derailment site.

Officials say there were no injuries and no danger to the public as hazardous material was not spilled. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation. KRQE News 13 spoke with a homeowner in the area of the derailment. The homeowner said they heard a lot of loud screeching that was unusually loud for the trains that generally pass by.
