WARREN COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A single-engine plane crashed into a field in Warren County on Tuesday evening.

Just after 7 p.m., Warren County Fire and Rescue (WCFR) was dispatched to Steed Lane for a reported aircraft crash. The plane was traveling from Michigan to Winchester and reported engine trouble at about 6,000 feet, the department said in a Facebook post.

The pilot found a field off Steed Lane where he was able to land. The plane hit trees during the landing, significantly damaging the wings.

The pilot got himself out of the plane before the fire department and EMS arrived. He was evaluated by officials and refused to be taken to the hospital.

The scene was later turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration and the Virginia State Police.
