One dead, one injured after Sunday U.S. 23 crash in Wise

Gilliam was driving a 2015 Lincoln MKC northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 23 in Wise when she  struck head on a Kia Sorento driven by 51-year-old Amy L. Ruff, Coeburn.

Gilliam was taken to an unspecified area hospital where she died of serious injuries, Demlein said. 

Ruff suffered serious injuries and was taken to an unspecified area hospital.

Virginia State Police investigators are trying to determine when and how Gilliam's vehicle entered the southbound lanes, Demlein said.
