EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – A good hospital experience when you’re sick or hurt can make a big difference in healing.

East Liverpool City Hospital in East Liverpool takes pride in a program the hospital calls “WOW”. The program asks if someone at the hospital went above and beyond and asks the patient to acknowledge a moment of excellence by an employee, physician, or volunteer. All the patient has to do is fill out a “WOW” card.

“With the WOW program, we’ve won the WOW Cup two years in a row,” said Crystal Ulbright, program director of wound care at East Liverpool City Hospital. “Our patients are our family and we treat them as we would want one of our loved ones to be treated.”

Patients can take part in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at the hospital. Ulbright says most patients and providers think of it as something to treat wounds, but says there are other diagnoses you can have to receive the treatment like bone infections, post-radiation, skin issues, urology issues and more.

And a lot is happening at East Liverpool City Hospital’s Wound Care Center in 2024.

“We just onboarded a new doctor named Dr. James D’Antonio. He joined us at the first of the year,” said Ulbright. “We also have Crystal Boyd who is our nurse practitioner. She is in the clinic Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and she’s patients.”

East Liverpool City Hospital’s Wound Care Center sees patients on the in-care side and also branches out to nursing homes. You won’t need a referral to go to the Wound Care Center unless your insurance provider feels you need one.

“For the continuity of care, we not only see patients on the outside, we see patients on the inside and continue following care,” said Ulbright.
