NBA: Luka Doncic sets new record in Dallas Mavericks win at Detroit Pistons

Luka Doncic became the first NBA player to record six consecutive 30-point triple-doubles as the Dallas Mavericks won 142-124 at the Detroit Pistons.

Russell Westbrook's mark of five in a row from 2017 was beaten by Doncic as the Slovenian, 25, delivered 39 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds on Saturday.

He also extended his own record with a fifth straight 35-point triple-double.

"That just shows what level he's playing on right now," said Mavericks coach Jason Kidd.

Kyrie Irving added 21 points for Dallas, who pulled away in the second half to claim their second straight win after a three-game losing streak.

Dallas now have a 36-28 record behind just the New Orleans Pelicans (38-25) in the Western Conference Southwest division.

The Denver Nuggets had their highest ever half-time lead of 78-44 before closing out a 142-121 win at home to the Utah Jazz.

The Nuggets, who beat Eastern Conference leaders the Boston Celtics last time out, led by as many as 39 points in the first half before Utah rallied to get within 14, scoring as many points in the third quarter as they did in the first half.

Jamal Murray tied his season-high with 37 points for Denver and two-time Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic added 26 as the defending champions improved to 44-20, moving into a tie with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the second seed in the Western Conference behind the Oklahoma City Thunder (44-19).

NBA pacesetters Boston had lost their last two but got back to winning ways by holding off the Phoenix Suns for a 117-107 victory.

Jayson Tatum scored 29 points and Jaylen Brown added 27 as the Celtics improved to 49-14, despite Kevin Durant scoring a season-high 45 points for hosts Phoenix.

"It's all about how you respond," said Tatum. "[If] you want to be a special team, you've got to do a good job responding. We bounced back in a positive way."

Keldon Johnson had 22 points for the San Antonio Spurs as they won 126-113 at a Golden State Warriors team playing without Stephen Curry.

Klay Thompson came off the bench to score 27 points for Golden State but it was not enough to stop the Warriors (33-30) suffering consecutive defeats for the first time since January.

Both Curry and San Antonio's star rookie Victor Wembanyama missed the game with right ankle injuries as the lowly Spurs improved to 14-50.
