Kate Abdo issues classy response to awkward Jamie Carragher remarks on her relationship

The former defender claimed on air that the presenter was not “loyal” to her boyfriend

Kate Abdo has addressed Jamie Carragher's widely criticised on-air comments over her relationship with former boxer Malik Scott.

Abdo presents Champions League coverage on CBS Sports in the United States, alongside former Premier League stars Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Carragher.

Their coverage often goes viral for their laid back, comical approach, but on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning footage spread for the wrong reasons.

Carragher, who was wearing an Arsenal shirt, told Abdo and Henry they would have to wear the shirt next only for Abdo to insist she is "loyal to Manchester United, thank you very much."

Carragher quickly quipped back "not to Malik", which was immediately met with shock and silence from his collegues as the former defender laughed nervously before Abdo replied: "Why would you even say that?"

In an attempt to quell the growing chorus of criticism, Abdo opened Wednesday's show with a classy piece to camera suggesting Carragher’s comments had "gone too far" but she had been apologised to.

Describing the three pundits as her "brothers", Abdo said Henry "always says the right thing" and is the "big brother we all look up to and aspire to".

Carragher, Abdo said, is "the middle child [who has] the chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention". She added: "Does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely. Does he apologise? Yes he does. But all of us have that one annoying family member that we still love and accept."

Abdo finished by describing Richards as a "loud but loveable ... little bro" who is "everybody’s favourite."
