Altercation between neighbors in Lawrence County, Ohio leads to fatal shooting

WILLOW WOOD, Ohio (WCHS) — Deputies are investigating a fatal shooting incident that stemmed from an altercation between neighbors in Lawrence County, Ohio.

Curtis L. Craig, 73, was found dead Friday following a fight with his neighbor, 61-year-old Donald Russell, according to a news release from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office.

The news release said Russell told deputies he found Craig tampering with a hunting cabin near his home. When confronting Craig, Russell said he was threatened with a rifle and punched in the face.

Deputies said a fight reportedly followed and Russell was able to get control of the rifle when Craig attempted to stab his neighbor with a knife.

Russell told investigators he fired the rifle multiple times, striking Craig in the upper torso.

Craig's body has been taken to Montgomery County for an autopsy.

Deputies said the shooting remains under investigation.
