(WHTM) — According to Pennsylvania State Police, retired Commissioner Tyree Blocker has passed away at the age of 71.

Colonel Blocker enlisted in the PSP in 1975 and served as commissioner from 2015 to 2018. He served in many roles while with State Police including the Crime Investigation Unit.

According to his obituary, Blocker worked with Troop J, Avondale and attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

“His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him including a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory forever,” stated his obituary. “His legacy of integrity, compassion, and selfless service will continue to inspire and guide future generations.”

Blocker became the 22nd Commissioner at the governor’s request until he retired from that role in March of 2019.

A viewing will be held on March 9 starting at 12:30 p.m. at Assumption BVM Catholic Church in West Grove, followed by a Funeral Mass starting at 2:30 p.m.
