FLINT, MI – A candlelight vigil honoring the late Flint councilman Eric Mays was held Saturday, March 2, in front of the city hall in Flint.
Approximately 200 people gathered Saturday night to honor Mays. Candles were lit, speeches were given by his son Eric HaKeem Deontaye Mays other members of the community. Stories and prayers were shared about Mays and balloons were released by family and colleagues.
Mays died last Saturday. He was 65. Mays was serving his third term on Flint’s city council representing the city’s 1st Ward. He was re-elected to his latest term in November 2021.
Funeral arrangements have been announced, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Road, with the Rev. Daniel Moore officiating.
