ROUNDUP: Manteca wins softball slugfest at Kimball

Manteca outslugged Kimball in a Valley Oak League softball opener that included 25 hits, prevailing 7-3 Thursday in Tracy.

The Buffaloes (1-0, 7-2 overall) never trailed and plated six unanswered runs between the third and sixth innings to stake a 7-1 lead.

“Our offense was clicking today,” Manteca coach Josh Farris said. “Whenever you have that many hits and contributions up and down the lineup, you know your team is locked in.

Manteca accounted for 14 of the knocks, and six Buffaloes laced multiple hits.Pitcher Nayellys Torres played a part in the onslaught, going 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI.

Sienna Lowery (double, run), Ayva Wilkins (run, two RBIs), Maleiah Garza (run, RBI) and Jocelyn Baptist (double, run, RBI) each went 2 for 4. Lauren Moncada went 2 for 5 with two runs.

Torres went the distance from the pitcher’s circle, giving up three runs (two earned) on 11 hits, no walks and a hit batter. She also had five strikeouts.

Elysia Duarte and Briez Dodds both went 3 for 4 to lead Kimball (0-1, 5-3).


Ripon Christian 8, Gustine 4

The Knights (1-1 Southern Athletic League, 1-6 overall) went on the road and notched their first win of the season, using a four-run rally in the top of the third to take the lead for good at 5-3. They added three more in the third to run away with it.

Sophomore Samantha Lowe pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven. She was also 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI at the plate.

Ally Brown and Kate Vander Veen each hammered a double. Alanna Blanco drove in a pair of runs.


BASEBALL

Manteca 10, Weston Ranch 0 (6)

In Stockton, Edward Anthony drove in five runs, while George Mendoza and Jesse Bella combined for the mercy-shortened two-hitter for the Buffaloes (9-1-1).

Anthony finished 3 for 4 and scored a run. Nate Slikker (2 for 3) and Preston Smith plated three runs apiece. Jace Quitasol went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Rex Watson legged out a triple.

George Mendoza pitched thee first four innings, giving up two hits and two walks. Jesse Bella walked one in two innings of relief.


Liberty 11, East Union 7

The Lancers (8-2) trailed 11-1 at one point but rallied late to prevent an early exit out of Brentwood.

Blake Mount went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for East Union. Davien Fagundes was also 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Mount also started on the mound and was the first of three pitchers used.


BOYS GOLF

West 287, Lathrop 303, Millennium n

Lathrop freshman Brayden Beckman finished 3-over 39 on the front nine of Tracy Golf & Country Club and was low medalist in the Western Athletic Conference double dual. His round included a birdie on hole 5.

Matthew Hammond contributed a 59 for the Spartans. Raphael Iniguez (66), Ashweil Jeet (67) and Jared Isla (72) were the rest of the scorers.

Kaeden Underwood of West was the overall runner-up with a 48.


BOYS TENNIS

Manteca 8, East Union 1

Mihcael Osanna, Ivan Barajas, Vince Almeida, Michael Levchenko and Kevin Navarro all won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 for Manteca (3-1 VOL, 4-1 overall).

Landon Butler an Declan Edwards took the No. 1 doubles match, 6-1, 6-1. Harian Arriaga-Sepulveda and Steven Sarmiento won No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-0. East Union got its lone victory at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-1.


Sierra 8, Kimball 1

The Timberwolves (3-0 VOL, 7-0 overall) eked out two three-set wins to widen the margin.

No. 3 David Martin defeated Ranav Ramesh 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, while Oliver Naven ground out a 6-3, 3-6, 7-7 win over Jashanpreet Nagra at No. 5 singles.

Brady Alves took care of Abem Girmai 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Ashton Hillard (6-2, 6-1), Hasnain Ali (6-2, 7–5) and Santiago Franco (6-2, 6-3) also prevailed in straight sets.

Sparsh Beedi and Sid Gopendian swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-2. Alex Rey Rosario and Gurshawn Sandhu took the No. 3 doubles match, 6-2, 7-5.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Ripon 3, Riverbank 0

Martin Raygoza served up nine aces to help Ripon (2-0, 8-3 overall) come away with the 25-5, 25-6, 25-11 Trans-Valley League win.

The setter also tallied nine assists and four digs. Tony Gomez contributed six aces, two kills, five assists and five digs. Johnny Rey added five kills and four aces to the attack.

Trent Olmo (three kills, three blocks) and Jesse Ochoa (two kills, three blocks) also keyed the front row.


Lathrop 3, Los Banos 0

The Spartans (5-0, 8-2) swept 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 to remain unbeaten in the WAC.

Gabriel Fa’ali’i fired 11 kils and three aces. Peter Respicio raced up four kills, and Marco Palomares served four aces.

Charles Reyes led the defense with 15 digs, and setter Alexander Vere had 20 assists and six digs.


JV boys volleyball

Lathrop 2, Los Banos 0

Gurmukh Singh netted six kills, five aces and three digs, as Lathrop rolled to the 25-18, 25-10 win.

Michael Miravite Adams produced five kills and three solo blocks. Diego Alvarez added four kills.

Josh Ramirez tallied seven digs and two aces. Setter Mario Luna handed out 16 assists.
