The Birmingham News Power 5 ranks the top softball teams in the area regardless of class.

The first Power 5 of the season contains plenty of familiar teams, including state champions and traditional softball powers.

Note: Information compiled through Saturday games and all schedules subject to change.

5. Vestavia Hills (7-3-2)

The skinny: The Rebels are always tough in Class 7A with wins this season over Class 7A Bob Jones, Class 5A Springville and Moody, Class 4A power Curry and more with losses to Enterprise and Brooks and ties to West Limestone and Gardendale.
