Vote now for The Herald’s high school sports athlete of the week

Below are the nominees for The Herald’s high school athlete of the week.

Laney Allen, Buford softball: The Yellow Jackets’ senior was 1-for-3 at the plate, while earning the save on the mound in a 2-0 win at North Central, March 19.

The next day, Allen went 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs in a 19-4 victory over Central Pageland.

Allen finished off the week by going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, while tossing a complete-game to earn the 6-3 win at Chesterfield, March 21.

Buford is 4-1 overall this season.

Gabby Badillo, Clover softball: The Blue Eagles’ hit .545 at the plate with six singles, one RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases as Clover went 3-1 this week.

Badillo led Clover to wins over Blythewood (3-2, March 19), York (6-1, March 20) and Woodruff (12-2, March 23), while the Blue Eagles lost 1-0 to Crescent, March 23.

Clover is 6-3 overall this season.

Garrett Brown, South Pointe track: The Stallions’ senior won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 6.70 seconds, the 1600-meter run (4:26.42) and the 3200-meter run (9:41) in a home meet with Andrew Jackson, Lewisville and Riverwalk Academy, March 18.

Brown, a Clemson University commit, also led the South Pointe boys’ track team to 167 points, ahead of second-place Lewisville.

Paige Conroy, Catawba Ridge Girls’ lacrosse: The Copperheads’ sophomore scored a school-record nine goals to go with seven groundballs and one assist in an 18-8 win over Christ Church Episcopal, March 21.

Conroy had four goals in the first half, and five goals in the second half, including four consecutive scores in the third quarter in the same game.

Conroy also had one grounball in 14-2 loss at Fort Mill, March 18.

Conroy has 36 goals and eight assists for Catawba Ridge (5-5) this season.

Cam Ferguson, Clover track: The Blue Eagles’ junior ran a personal-best 23.48 to win the 200-meter dash at Blythewood, March 20.

Ferguson also ran a personal-best 11.39 to finish seventh-place in the 100-meter dash at the same meet.

Josh Miller, Nation Ford lacrosse: The Falcons’ junior goalkeeper had five saves in a 16-3 win over Blythewood, March 18.

Miller also had 18 saves in a 10-7 win at Christ Church Episcopal, March 21.

Miller finished off the week with nine saves in a 9-0 victory over Fort Mill, March 21.

Miller has 109 saves for Nation Ford (8-4) this season.

Jordan Roberts, York Prep Girls’ soccer: The Patriots’ senior led the York Prep defense in a 2-1 win over Andrew Jackson, March 21, and 3-0 shutout of Buford, March 21.

Roberts has helped the York Prep (10-1-1) defense to seven shutout this season, while allowing just six goals overall.

Tyler Schwartz, Indian Land soccer: The Warriors’ senior scored three goals and had one assist in a 4-1 win at Lancaster, March 21.

The previous day, Schwartz also had a goal and two assists in a 4-1 victory over Andrew Jackson.

Schwartz had an assist in a 4-2 loss to Catawba Ridge, March 19.

Schwartz has nine goals and 10 assists for Indian Land (7-2) this season.

Aubrey Stevenson, Rock Hill Girls’ track: The Bearcats’ freshman ran personal-best 26.20 to win the 200-meter dash at Rock Hill, March 20.

Stevenson also helped the 4x100-meter relay to victory (48.10) and was runnerup in the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 12.48 at the same meet.

Stevenson is also a standout on the Rock Hill girls’ basketball team.

Mia Williams, Fort Mill Girls’ track: The Yellow Jackets’ sophomore won the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 12.68 in a home meet with Spring Valley, March 20.

Williams also won the both long jump (16-10) and triple jump (36-1 1/2) at the same meet to help lead the Fort Mill girls’ track team to a 20-point victory.
