House fire near top of U.P. leaves woman dead

MOHAWK, MI -- A house fire reported early Thursday morning left one woman dead as the investigation into how the fire started continues. According to WLUC-6, responders were dispatched to 83 6th Street around 2 a.m. for reports of a fire.

The fire appears to have started in the basement and a K9 officer has been brought in to determine if accerants were used. The identity of the victim has not been made public, pending notification of the victim’s family.
