KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley joins the Living East Tennessee crew with an adorable adoptable you can take home and make part of your family.

Humane Society Tennessee Valley is the first animal shelter in the state of Tennessee and the first no-kill animal shelter in Knoxville. In 2024, they turn 139 years old!

They are a regional shelter that works to transfer animals from rural shelters in East Tennessee and beyond into their Lifesaving Adoption Center. HSTV is experiencing an unprecedented increase in animal intakes and a decrease in adoptions, and they are in desperate need of fosters to help bring more animals into care. Fosters take animals while HSTV waits for cage space and are essential to our lifesaving efforts!

This week, HSTV is educating the public on how best to rehome a pet they can longer care for. Rehome by Adopt-A-Pet is a website that supports people in finding great homes for their pets by allowing you to build a profile, accept and review applications, and even set up meet and greets with potential adopters. They have a step-by-step process that helps to make sure you are making the right choice and resources available to see if keeping your pet is an option before you make the choice to rehome.

Rehome by Adopt-A-Pet allows the animal to stay in the environment they are comfortable in while they find their new home and do not have to be subjected to a shelter, which can be very traumatizing for some animals.
