Brenda J. McDonald OBITUARY

Rev. Dr. Brenda Jackson McDonald of Hampton, VA passed away on March 15, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. A native of Roper, North Carolina she was born on August 8, 1947 to the late Minnie Freeman Jackson and James H. Jackson.

Dr. McDonald served as Founder & Senior Pastor of Second Baptist Church – Hampton from its inception in 1995 until 2017 when she retired. Dr. McDonald was one of the first female Baptist pastors in the Tidewater region.

Dr. McDonald also served as a registered nurse at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hampton, VA and taught nursing at New Horizons Regional Education Center for over 30 year.

Rev. Dr. McDonald is remembered by her three wonderful children; James, J. Breneige, John II (Samantha); two loving grandsons; Kwinton and Kailen, close cousin Ronald Freeman (Charlene), and her Second Baptist Church-Hampton family & friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church-Hampton, 2355 W. Pembroke Ave. Hampton, VA 23661. All arrangements are under the care of Smith Brothers Funeral Home, 545 E. Mercury Blvd, Hampton, VA 23663.
