TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - The West Alabama Food Bank is busier now than ever after moving into a new building.

The new location allows the food bank to serve more people who are experiencing food insecurity in several West Alabama counties. It moved from Northport to Tuscaloosa more than a year ago.

This week, the food bank welcomed visitors to its new location after remodeling was complete.

The West Alabama Food Bank moved into a facility that once housed beverage company Buffalo Rock. This move allowed the company to have more warehouse space. There are also a cooler and freezer to hold 500 pallets of food.

The larger space allows the food bank to accept more food donations and to keep them fresh for longer.

The West Alabama Food Bank will phase in a new kitchen this summer to teach cooking classes.

In the future, the food bank is also planning to start a food pharmacy to work with doctors at DCH Regional Medical Center to provide free, healthy food to its patients.
