'Hass has ready market'
By Eddie Ssejjoba:
Martin Nyakone, the lead agronomist at Avocare, says Hass avocado is highly profitable and has a ready market. He says fruit should be grown in the compound, it has a long shelf life, it can last 14 days after harvest and it does not ripen on the tree.
It has high yields and is ready for harvest in two-and-half years, and a farmer can harvest four tonnes in one acre.
Nyakone says Hass avocado has a lot of nutrients and that Ugandans should embrace it.

Meanwhile, in one of the training rooms, Grace Kazigati, the NAADS agribusiness development officer, has been taking expogoers through post-harvest handling and innovations (especially growing and harvesting) of Hass avocado.
She says starters should begin with a few trees of avocado and can increase the number with time after getting knowledge and skills, reports Eddie Ssejjoba.
