Performances of the first fifth-grade play to be staged at Gloucester’s new East Veterans Elementary School are this week.

The fifth-grade class will present the musical “Mary Poppins Jr!” this Friday, March 22, at 6 p.m., and Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m.

“It’s very exciting,” said play director Heidi Dallin, YMCA of the North Shore’s theater specialist.

The cast of 30 fifth-graders and crew has been rehearsing every day this week. The musical is about a nanny who has a magical effect on the family who hires her.

The East Veterans PTO is hosting a concession stand. Money raised from ticket sales, concession and raffles directly benefit every fifth grader in end-of-year parties and fun.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, with a $25 cap for immediate families. They may be purchased via Venmo at @EastVetsPTO or at the door.

The Cape Ann YMCA, a division of the YMCA of the North Shore, the Gloucester Education Foundation, and East Veterans PTO are sponsoring the play.
