The Lawrence County Historical Society will meet on Thursday, March 28, at 6:30 PM at the Southern Tennessee Higher Education Center. Curtis Peters will do a presentation on the history of Railroads in Lawrence County from the earliest authorized railroad in 1850, the Nashville & Southern, through the actual building of the Nashville, Florence & Sheffield RR later the L&N. Several communities were created along the route of the Railroad, being built, that are still there today. Several new industries also were created as well as modern passenger service from Columbia to Florence, Alabama. Over 24 Railroad Depots were built for railroad service in Lawrence County! The presentation will have a PowerPoint with over 100 old local photos of Lawrence County’s railroad history.
