Students term English paper lengthy, grammar trickier
CHANDIGARH: The English paper of the Class-X exams conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday was rated “mostly easy”, but lengthy by students.
Amitejh and Kashvi Adya, students of humanities stream at Vivek High School, said the paper seemed relatively easy and nothing was out of syllabus.
Amitejh added that he considered himself fortunate to have received Set 1, as he found Set 2 a bit more challenging.
“The paper was straightforward, but lengthy, focusing more on factual content than competency-based questions,” he said.
Kashvi said the paper was longer as compared to the Hindi paper, a sentiment echoed by most students.
Their classmate Kushal Bajaj said, “The paper was standard, but a bit time consuming as all the questions were of logical reasoning. Writing section even was not very difficult.”
Rajan of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti termed the paper “moderately difficult”. He found the grammar section slightly challenging and noted a different pattern compared to previous years.
The English language and literature exam requires students to write a three-hour paper worth 80 marks. The paper consists of three sections — reading, writing, and grammar and literature.

However, Rupinder, an English teacher at Government Senior Secondary School in Dhanas, described the paper as relatively easy. She found the writing section simple and straightforward, while noting that the literature part was reported lengthy by students, but comprised mostly direct questions, particularly character sketches, making it scoring.
