A Milton man was arrested after he allegedly fired a shot from one apartment into another in Milton, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, personnel from several law enforcement agencies responded to a shots fired call at 33 Northside Drive in Milton, Sgt. Erik Albeck said in a statement.
Police established a perimeter and started evacuating other units in the apartment building. Initial reports were that another person was possibly with the suspect, Albeck said.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was brought in to take command of the incident, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Hostage Negotiations Team also was brought in and attempted to contact the suspect, and a search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s apartment, Albeck said.
At 11:50 p.m., authorities located the other person safe in a separate unit, Albeck said.

After attempts to contact the suspect failed, the SWAT team entered the apartment and did not find him. The SWAT team then searched a storage area in the building and found the suspect and took him into custody at 1:11 a.m., Albeck said.
Capt. Caleb Beutin later said that the investigation determined that one shot was fired and it entered another apartment in the complex. No injuries were reported.
Beutin said the arrested man was John Diggles, 53, and he faces tentative charges of two counts of first-degree reckless endangering safety, possession with intent to deliver THC, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
