Lake County Sheriff’s Department detectives are seeking the public’s help with a complaint of a possible home invasion Tuesday.
A Lake Dalecarlia woman told police two men posing as NIPSCO employees forced their way into her home, sheriff’s spokeswoman Pam Jones said in a release. The two then tied her up and ransacked her place, she said.
The men were described as tall — between 6’ and 6’4 — in their late 20s or early 30s and believed to be driving a yellow rental van similar to a Ford E-Transit with a Penske logo, Jones said. One of the men was white with a large stomach and wearing a yellow and orange reflective vest, a white mask and tan work boots, while the second man was Black with short braids and wearing dark, loose blue jeans and a white medical mask, she said.
NIPSCO representatives are aware of scammers pretending to be NIPSCO employees, so residents who have questions about people claiming to represent NIPSCO should call the utility’s customer care team at 1-800-464-7726, Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. said in the release.
