Suffolk County police tell News 12 that the report of a suspicious man trying to get a teenage girl into his car in a West Babylon neighborhood is unfounded.

That report had people on Burgess Avenue very concerned.

News 12 was in the neighborhood and saw police going door-to-door, speaking with residents Tuesday afternoon.

The superintendent of West Babylon schools put out a statement about the incident warning parents - before it was deemed to be unfounded.

That report came 12 hours after Suffolk County police tell News 12 a student in nearby Lindenhurst was approached by a stranger in a white car Tuesday morning.

According to police, the seventh grader was walking to the middle school on South Wellwood Avenue when it happened.

In a letter to parents, the seventh grader's principal said the driver repeatedly asked the girl to get into his car.

She said no and made it to school safely.

Suffolk County police tell News 12 they have increased patrols in Lindenhurst after the reported incident and those patrols will remain in place "for the foreseeable future."
