Q Acoustics Launches Brand New Flagship 5050 Floorstanding Speakers

Following

All music lovers like a bit of bass. A good low rumble makes the hairs stand up on the back of your next and impresses the neighbors. If that sounds like something you like, the latest pair of floorstanding speakers from British audio specialist Q Acoustics will tickle your fancy.

Today, Q Acoustics has published a press release announcing the launch of its brand-new 5050 flagship floorstanding speakers. The 5050 speakers are part of Q Acoustics' award-winning 5000 loudspeaker range designed for stereo and home cinema use. The 5050 are the largest speakers in the range and have the scale and power to project music thanks to having the largest mid/bass drivers in the series.

The new speakers showcase some genuine advances in driver design with the launch of the C3 Continuous Curved Cone profile of the mid/bass driver. The 5050 also inherits some innovative cabinet and driver technology that has trickled down from the brand’s flagship Concept range.

Q Acoustics claims its C3 Continuous Curved Cone has all the benefits of a straight-shaped cone but has the high/mid-range frequency control produced by a flared-shaped cone. By creating a single, smooth and continuous curve profile, Q Acoustics says the profile provides excellent dispersion of sound waves, alongside a well-controlled frequency response which means a smoother integration with the tweeter.

The cone’s geometry needs a motor with plenty of muscle to get the best sound. To do this, Q Acoustics has used substantial magnets coupled to large voice coils. The result is a 50% increase in power handling and control over a comparable driver with a 25.4mm voice coil. This improvises the dynamic range of the speaker, especially in the bass frequencies.

The designers of these new floorstanders also claim that the bass is deeper but with a tighter, damped low-end sound which means the speakers are far more tolerant where they are placed, even if that’s close to the walls. Harmonic distortion has also been reduced for better sonic performance and a wide soundstage.

The 5050 speakers have a minimalist design that draws inspiration from Q Acoustics' top-range Concept speaker series. The baffle fronts are laminated with a layer of butyl rubber and black acrylic trim. This design provides a damping layer that suppresses vibration occurring in the baffle while creating an eye-catching contrast to the clean façade of the speakers.

In common with the 5000 series, the new 5050 floorstanders are available in a choice of four finishes that should blend in with most styles of décor. The finishes are Satin Black, Satin White, Santos Rosewood and Holme Oak. The 5050s have solid aluminum stabilizers with top adjustable spikes for easier leveling. The low-profile speaker terminals provide a tidy look and enable the speakers to be placed closer to a wall if necessary.

All models in the 5000 series include acoustic cabinet innovations that Q Acoustics first introduced in its high-end Concept range, including tweeter design, Point-2-Point (P2P) bracing and Helmholtz Pressure Equalizers (HPE) tube technology.

The tweeters in the 5050 are based on the design principle used in Q Acoustics' most recent Concept series. The tweeter takes care of the high frequencies and is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle by allowing it to float independently. The floating tweeter means there is no influence from internal pressure modulations coming from the cabinet and adjacent mid/bass driver. The inner chamber of the cabinet has also been vented to reduce distortion. The crossover point is also lower for better and seamless integration.
