Mid City affordable housing development opens

Government Corridor, an affordable workforce housing development in Mid City Baton Rouge, is open.

The development is made up of 34 apartments within 31 single family and duplex homes near Government Street. The buildings are bordered by Brice and Delphine streets to the east and west and North Boulevard and Louisiana Avenue to the north and south.

Gulf Coast Housing Partnership, a New Orleans firm, led the $8.6 million redevelopment. The work was largely financed by $6.8 million in federal low income housing tax credits.

Baton Rouge startup secures $4.6 million in funding

Mallard Bay, a startup that bills itself as "Airbnb for sportsmen," has closed on a $4.6 million funding round.

The funding was led by Soul Venture Partners of Houston and included follow-up investments from Acadian Capital Ventures of Lafayette.

Mallard Bay was launched in late 2021 by three LSU students. The company is an online marketplace that connects hunters and fishers with guides and charter boat captains. Customers can book trips with verified outfitters and pay online. Outdoor business can promote their services and get paid instantly.

The company completed a $1.8 million funding round in 2022.

Sugar Bowl officials to address ACG luncheon

Walter Becker Jr., president of the Sugar Bowl Committee, and Jeff Hundley, CEO of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, will be the guest speakers at the Association of Corporate Growth's April luncheon.

The luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. April 9 at Windsor Court, 300 Gravier St., in New Orleans.

Bollinger delivers 56th fast-response cutter

Bollinger Shipyards has delivered the USCGC David Duren to the Coast Guard in Key West, Florida.

This is the 182nd vessel Bollinger has delivered to the Coast Guard over a 35-year period and the 56th fast-response cutter delivered under the current program.

The USCGC David Duren will have its home port in Sector Columbia River, which is known as "the protectors of the Pacific Northwest."

The sector is responsible for coastal safety, security and environmental protection along the Oregon coast.

The ship is named after David N. Duren, considered one of the finest boat drivers in the history of the modern Coast Guard. Between 1979 and 1983, Duren deployed on search and rescue cases more frequently than any other officer-in-charge. He was awarded two Coast Guard Medals for exceptional heroism, and the Douglas A. Munro Inspirational Leadership Award.

SCORE to host business startup seminar Tuesday

Louisiana SCORE will hold a free virtual seminar outlining basic finances for startup businesses from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The event covers topics such as critical financial definitions, record keeping, start up costs, income and expense projections and collections.
