Grand Junction City Council is slated to interview two candidates for the position of interim city manager Wednesday. The interviews are scheduled to be conducted in executive session.

City Council is searching for an immediate replacement for Greg Caton, who is leaving the city for an assistant city manager position in Scottsdale Arizona and whose last day is scheduled for April 5 to oversee the city’s operations while a permanent replacement is sought.

An initial interim candidate, former Jackson, Wyoming town manager Bob McLaurin, withdrew from consideration last week. An executive session regarding possible interim city manager candidates was held Monday.

The two candidates to be interviewed are Jennifer Phillips and Roger Tinklenberg, according to the notice for the executive session.

Phillips worked as city manager of Bothell, Washington from 2017 to 2021. She has also worked as city manager of St. Helena, California and assistant city manager of assistant city manager of Santa Rosa, Santa Monica and Fullerton, California.

Tinklenberg was city manager for Commerce City from May 2021 through August 2022. He worked for the city of Commerce City in various capacities, including deputy city manager and finance director, from 2001 to 2022. Tinklenberg was also city administrator for Federal Heights from 1995 to 2000.

An item discussing a possible future city manager hire has also been included in city council’s regular meeting Wednesday.

A farewell party for Caton is scheduled for the Avalon Theatre on March 27 from 4-6 p.m.
