‘I have bombs’: Antioch High School student arrested after threatening to ‘blow up’ school

ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WKRN) – An 18-year-old Antioch High School student faces a felony charge after school officials said he “threatened to blow up the school.”

According to an arrest report, Richard Byers was one of multiple students who were searched due to “excessive lateness.”

While searching the students, Byers allegedly told the assistant principal, “I don’t have guns, I have bombs.” The assistant principal said he tried to ignore the him, but Byers then stated, “I’m going to blow up the school,” according to an arrest report.

Authorities responded to the school and reported multiple students in the hallways told officers that “another kid had said something to the effect of having a bomb or explosives.”

An arrest report states Byers was brought to the SRO office to be questioned about the incident. During a search, officers found two vapes that tested positive for THC, according to school security.

Byers was arrested and allegedly admitted to officers that he made the statements as a joke. He was charged with threat of violence in school and false report, which is a felony charge.

According to court records, Byers was booked into Metro Jail shortly after 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26. He was released the same day just after 10 p.m., records show.
