BURLINGTON, Ky. (WXIX) - A man, who was accused of reaching for a Boone County Sheriff’s deputy’s gun during an incident in June 2023, is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Tristen Beam is accused of punching one deputy and trying to reach for his gun while kicking another and knocking off his bodycam.

According to court documents, deputies intervened when Beam allegedly started a confrontation with a race track worker at Florence Motor Speedway.

Beam is charged with menacing, assault against a police officer, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

In body camera video from the incident, Beam initially complied with deputies while they tried to get him into a vehicle. Beam began complaining when he said deputies were pushing him into the car and he began kicking. This was when Beam was accused of kicking the bodycam off the deputy.

The deputies can be heard interacting with Beam on audio from the video footage.

“Real smart. You just got a felony,” the deputy said.

“I told you don’t push me inside the car,” Beam said.

“Well, you don’t make the (removed) decisions. You understand me?” the deputy replied.

The other deputy on the scene said he got kicked in the chest and head.

Court documents accuse Beam of reaching for the first deputy’s gun, but the deputy in the report said he couldn’t see if Beam did reach for it.

Beam said he didn’t know he was in a confrontation with police officers until he was on the ground.

Beam has been out of jail on a $5,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
