PAWTUCKET – Police are explaining why there was a heavy law enforcement presence in the area of Jenks Middle School and McCoy Stadium Wednesday morning, March 27.
Officials reported that they received a call about a bomb threat at Jenks Middle School at around 11:50 a.m on Wednesday.
Out of an abundance of caution, police and school officials evacuated all students and staff from the building to the McCoy Stadium evacuation site.
Police then proceeded with their investigation inside the school, conducting a sweep and determining the credibility of the threat.
It was eventually determined that the call was linked to swatting incidents that have occurred in other states, and authorities concluded that the threat was not credible and that it was unfounded.
During the evacuation, several students experienced anxiety, but were evaluated and there were no transports for medical emergencies. Students and staff were safe and followed planned procedures.Â
Jenks held no classes on Thursday, March 28, due to parent/teacher conferences, but classes will resume on Friday, March 29.
