IMANI -- áSEVERAL TOWNS WERE THERE TO KNOCK DOWN THIS FIRE. MONICA/STEVE ((SHOW AND TELL)) WE CAN STILL SEE FIREFIGHTERS HERE TRYING TO PUT OUT THE áSMOKE FROM THOSE EARLIER FLAMES.. THE SMELL IS VERY STRONG.. BUT OF COURSE NOW CREWS ARE STILL DEALING WITH THE AFTERMATH... THE DUNBARTON FIRE CHIEF TELLS ME IT WAS NEIGHBOR WHO REPORTED SEEING FLAMES COMING FROM 250 MANSION ROAD. HE SAYS THIS FIRE STARTED IN THE BARN IN THE áBACK OF THIS HOUSE.. SPREAD TO THE GARAGE AND THEN EVENTUALLY SPREAD TO THE BACK HALF OF THE HOME. WE KNOW NINE PEOPLE LIVE HERE.. THE CHIEF SAYS TWO WERE EVACUATED FROM THE HOME BY FIREFIGHTERS WHILE THE OTHERS GOT THEMSELVES OUT. WE WATCHED FIREFIGHTERS PUNCHING THE WINDOWS OUT TO HELP CLEAR OUT ALL OF THE SMOKE INSIDE... CREWS FROM CONCORD, WARNER, WEBSTER BEDFORD, HENNIKER AND MORE ALL HERE TO HELP. <LUCKILY WE KNOW THIS HOME HAS HISTORICAL MEANING TO THIS COMMUNITY SINCE IT WAS OWNED BY THE SON OF GENERAL JOHN STARK AND BUILT IN 1785. AT THIS POINT -- THERE IS NO WORD OF HOW THIS FIRE STARTE

Firefighters battled a four-alarm fire at a historic mansion in Dunbarton on Thursday night. The fire was at the historic Stark Mansion on Mansion Road, which was once owned by Caleb Stark, son of Revolutionary War Gen. John Stark. A neighbor reported seeing flames coming from 250 Mansion Road. The fire started in the barn and spread to the garage and the house, all of which are connected. "Luckily, the main bulk of the fire was in the rear of the building and we were able to save the front of the building. A lot of mutual aid came in to help us, which was great," Wiggin said. According to town property records, the home was built in 1785. Dunbarton police asked people to avoid Mansion Road in the area of Stark Lane. The road is closed and police are on the scene to redirect traffic, police said.

Two people were helped out by firefighters and seven self-evacuated, authorities said.

A neighbor reported seeing flames coming from 250 Mansion Road. The fire started in the barn and spread to the garage and the house, all of which are connected.
