Portland weekend events: Shen Yun, St. Patrick’s Day Parade and more

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — This weekend’s warm weather calls for a reason to leave the house.

Whether it’s a St. Patrick’s Day party or another celebration, there will be plenty of things to do in Portland.

Shen Yun

With sold-out shows all across the globe, Shen Yun will bring ancient Chinese culture to the Rose City. “Experience a lost culture through the incredible art of classical Chinese dance, and see legends come to life,” event organizers said.

Portland Irish Festival

When: Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17
Where: Multiple locations

Hosted by Kells, Portland’s Irish Festival is a three-day celebration of Irish culture with food, live performances and activities. Events will be held at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Kells Irish Pub and Kells Brewery.

Frankenstein’s Comicbook Swap

When: Saturday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: 2201 Lloyd Center, Portland, OR 97232

Head to the Lloyd Center’s former H&M store to swap comic books, magazines, graphic novels and toys. Event organizers said there will be more than 120 tables of goods to share with other comic enthusiasts and artists.

National Women’s Soccer League season opener

When: Saturday, March 16 at 10
Where: The Sports Bra, 2512 NE Broadway, Portland, OR 97232

Portland Thorns will open the 2024 soccer season with a game against the Kansas City Current. The Sports Bra, a women’s sports bar and one of the football club’s pub partners, will open at 10 a.m. in honor of the occasion.

St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl

When: Saturday, March 16 and Sunday March 17 at 1 p.m.
Where: Multiple locations

Many Portland-area bars and restaurants will participate in this St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl with deals on food and drinks. Some locations will also offer the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s ride discounts for those out celebrating this weekend.

Nico Santos

When: Sunday, March 17 at 7 p.m.
Where: Helium Comedy Club, 1510 SE 9th Ave, Portland, OR 97214

“Superstore” and “Crazy Rich Asians” actor and comedian Nico Santos will perform his stand-up routine at the 21+ Helium Comedy Club. General admission tickets cost $27.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

When: Sunday, March 17 at 1 p.m.
Where: Beverly Cleary School, 1915 NE 33rd Ave, Portland, OR 97212

Starting at Northeast Hancock Street and Northeast 32nd Avenue, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade will feature bagpipers, a drum line and floats from the Hillsboro Hops and other groups. The kid-friendly parade will last about an hour.
