Windy but beautiful weekend in store for Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Saturday, Utah! A beautiful weekend is in store for most Utahns, but wet weather will stick around for parts of southern Utah.

Partly cloudy skies are expected for the north with daytime highs in the upper 50s for most of the state, including St. George. Gusty conditions will linger along the northern Wasatch Front and Cache Valley but taper off through Saturday evening. A Wind Advisory is in effect for Cache Valley and Davis/Weber Counties until Saturday at noon. Winds of 20-30 mph hold with gusts as high as 55 mph will be possible. Apart from some wind, it will be a very pleasant weekend in northern Utah. Southern Utah, on the other hand, is a different story.

Moisture sticks around into Saturday with temperatures in the upper 50s for the south. Places like Cedar City and Milford will see mostly rain but could see some snow thrown into the mix overnight. Wet weather will clear out for most by Sunday, but the Southern and Central Mountains will see snow through the entire weekend.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Southern/Central Mountains, the La Sal/Abajo Mountains, and the Bryce Canyon/Capitol Reef region. The bulk of the storm will be over by Saturday, warnings expire at 6 pm except for the La Sal/Abajo Mountains, which expires at 6 a.m. Saturday. Between Friday evening and Saturday evening, 1-2 feet more of snow could fall in the Central and Southern Mountains with some isolated locations having the potential to see 3 feet. Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Vicinity could see an additional 4-8 inches and the La Sal/Abajo Mountains could get up to 5 more inches accompanied by gusty winds of 40 mph.

South-Central Utah also has snow in the forecast, albeit not as much, but enough for a Winter Weather Advisory to be posted. The advisory expires at 6 pm Saturday, a trace to 4 inches of snowfall is possible, but it will primarily be seen above 6,000 feet.

By Monday, things warm up statewide and wet weather clears out for most, welcoming the first week of spring with gorgeous conditions. The bottom line? A beautiful weekend is in store for the north, but wet weather dampens the south. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the Southern/Central and La Sal/Abajo Mountains.
