Brutally cold day once wintry mix clears Tuesday morning
Overnight into early Tuesday, freezing drizzle was making for some icy conditions noted across the area and in Lincoln. Especially on elevated or untreated surfaces, a glaze of ice was accruing early before some scattered snow showers mixed in.
For this mixed wintry precipitation, a Winter Weather Advisory (purple) is in place for most of eastern Nebraska until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. A Winter Storm Warning (pink) continues for Knox and Antelope counties in northeast Nebraska until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Snow will come to an end from west to east, clearing just after sunrise.
The most miserable part of the day will be the wind, pelting you in the face and making conditions seem brutally cold to any exposed skin. Gusts will be strongest in the morning from about 30-45 mph out of the northwest. Winds will gradually calm through the afternoon.
Now on the backside of this strong system, we’ll stay very cold with temperatures struggling back to the middle 30s. Cloud cover in the morning and part of the afternoon will also limit some of our heating, with the sun likely to poke out toward the later afternoon.
With those nasty winds, it’ll feel like the single digits to start out Tuesday. Through the “warmest” parts of the day, we’ll still feel about 10 degrees cooler in the middle 20s.
Spring feels return though soon enough, without much snow on the ground across southeast Nebraska. Through the end of the work week, we should see a nice rebound, heading for the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.
There’ll be another chance for some spotty showers on Easter and into next Monday, but until then we’ll be entering a dry period with more sun.
