SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Soccer at a professional level is quickly catching on in the region.

A Sioux Falls club is looking to become the first professional women’s soccer team in the state next year and fans can keep up with the squad even when not at the games thanks to a new partnership.

Sioux Falls City FC made a splash when the team first took the pitch about two years ago.

The squad has been competing in the Women’s Premier Soccer League and is looking to go pro. Now fans can keep up the team in a new way.

Dakota News Now will be carrying all of City’s home games this year, for people to watch at home.

Fans will be able to tune in to The Outlaw to catch the games.

Co-owner Emily Thomas says as the team prepares for this season and to make the jump to the professional level next year, they wanted to maximize their exposure, and this partnership helps bring women’s soccer to more people.

“So to be in on the ground floor here in Sioux Falls and to bring that to our community is super exciting and fun. It’s been phenomenal with the amount of support that we’ve gotten, and the more our brand gets out there, and what we’re doing and how we’re doing it, the more people and businesses are just coming and wanting to be a part of it,” Thomas said.

Sioux Falls City FC opens their home schedule with a preseason exhibition against Sioux City. Their regular season home opener will be against Minnesota Thunder Academy.

All of these games can be seen on channel 13.2 The Outlaw.

The team is also launching a new website to go along with their new season, SiouxFallsCityFC.com.
