Greenville-based glass recycling company Bricolage Dynamics is partnering with Milliken and Company to test an expansion of their services to Spartanburg County. Bricolage Dynamics operates in the Greenville area and collects glass from businesses and households on a bi-weekly basis to turn into sand. Milliken and Company, a Spartanburg-based industrial manufacturer, is the first company outside of Greenville to partner with Bricolage Dynamics.

While glass recycling services are not yet available to individual homes in Spartanburg, Bricolage Dynamics President Zeb Parsons said he hopes to expand the services to neighborhoods and small businesses in Spartanburg County. In a statement, Milliken executives said they were delighted the company had become the first Spartanburg client. “As head of sustainability at Milliken, I get to see every day that our work is not just about the big goals we set, but it is also about the choices we make to leave the places we live and work in better than we found them,” Senior Vice President and General Counsel Kasel Knight wrote. “Milliken’s glass recycling partnership with Bricolage Dynamics is an example of our sustainability commitment in action – and a continuation of our pledge to support our community.”

Both Greenville and Spartanburg are among several Upstate counties that no longer recycle glass. Glass can travel about two and a half hours before it begins to lose monetary value due to transportation costs. As glass recycling facilities close, the shipping distance to a facility increases which makes it difficult for companies to transport glass . As a result, companies like Pratt Industries, which serves several Upstate counties, have stopped collecting glass altogether.
