Who in the Upstate is running for the SC House in 2024?

As the 2024 elections draw near, a diverse array of candidates have emerged to vie for seats in the South Carolina State House.

Candidates have until April 1 to join the race. All 124 seats in the House are up for grabs.

Primary elections for Democratic and Republican nominations are scheduled for June 11, with any necessary runoffs scheduled for June 25.

Here’s who’s running so far from the Upstate:

In House District 1, state Rep. Bill Whitmire, R-Oconee, is seeking another term, and is currently running uncontested. Whitmire has served in the House since 2003.

In District 2, long-time state Rep. Bill Sandifer, R-Oconee, who currently serves as chairman of the House Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee, has announced his reelection bid. Sandifer has represented Oconee and parts of Pickens counties since 1995, and is currently running uncontested.

State Rep. Jerry Carter, R-Pickens, who serves District 3, is running for another term. .

House Majority Leader Davy Hiott, R-Pickens, has filed for reelection. He represents District 4.

In District 5, a newcomer, Brandy Tarleton is looking to replace state Rep. Neal Collins, R-Pickens, who’s not yet filed for reelection.

State Rep. April Cromer, R-Anderson, is seeking another term in District 6.

In District 7, which covers Abbeville, Anderson and Greenville counties, state Rep. Jay West, R-Anderson has filed for reelection.

State Rep. Don Chapman, R-Anderson, who serves District 8, is seeking another term.

District 9 features a contest between James Galyean and Blake Sanders, both Republicans, as the incumbent, state Rep. Anne Thayer, R-Anderson, who serves chairman of the House Rules Committee, is not seeking reelection.

In District 10, Republican Pam Anthony is challenging incumbent, state Rep. Thomas Beach, R-Anderson.

State Rep. Craig Gagnon, R-Abbeville, is seeking reelection in District 11.

In District 12, state Rep. Daniel Gibson, R-Greenwood, has filed to secure another term.

In District 13, state Rep. John McCravey, R-Greenwood, is running for another term.

State Rep. Mark Willis, R-Greenville, who serves as chairman of the House Interstate Cooperation Committee, is looking to continue serving District 16.

In District 17, state Rep. Mike Burns, R-Greenville, is currently facing a challenge by Tom Bates, a Republican.

State Rep. Alan Moran, R-Greenville, is looking to hold onto his seat in District 18.

In District 19, state Rep. Patrick Haddon, R-Greenville, who serves as the chairman of the House Operations and Management Committee, is seeking reelection.

Paul Wickensimer and Stan Tzouvelekas, both Republicans, are bidding to replace state Rep. Jason Elliott, R-Greenville, who has not filed for reelection, in District 22.

In District 23, state Rep. Chandra Dillard, D-Greenville, is seeking another term.

John MacCarthy, a Democrat, is running in District 27 to replace state Rep. David Vaughn, R-Greenville.

In District 28, Chris Huff is running to replace state Rep. Ashley Trantham, R-Greenville, who’s has not filed for reelection.

State Rep. Dennis Moss, R-Cherokee, who serves as the chairman of the House Invitations and Memorial Resolutions Committee, is seeking reelection in District 29.

In District 30, state Rep. Brian Lawson, R-Cherokee, has filed for another term.

In District 31, state Rep. Rosalyn Henderson-Myers, D-Spartanburg, is seeking another term.

Republican Scott Montgomery is looking to replace state Rep. Max Hyde, R-Spartanburg, in District 32. Hyde has not filed for reelection.

State Rep. Travis Moore, R-Spartanburg, is looking to retain his seat in District 33.

In District 34, Henry Ross and Sarita Edgerton, both Republicans, will battle to replace state Rep. Roger Nutt, R-Spartanburg, who is not seeking reelection.

State Rep. Bill Chumley, R-Spartanburg, from District 35 is seeking another term.

In District 36, freshman state Rep. Rob Harris, R-Spartanburg is seeking a second term.

In District 37, state Rep. Steven Long, R-Spartanburg, is seeking reelection.

Republican Jason Shamis is running in District 38 to replace state Rep. Josiah Magnuson, R-Spartanburg, who has filed for reelection.

State Rep. Doug Gilliam, R-Union, is seeking reelection in District 42.
